Why Affordability Matters
Homeownership is a cornerstone of household stability, wealth-building, and community resilience. As prices rise faster than incomes, entire segments of the population—seniors, single parents, essential workers, newcomers and first-time buyers—are being permanently excluded from ownership. This exclusion creates long-term social and fiscal costs that are ultimately borne by governments and communities. SBC addresses affordability not through short-term subsidies, but by changing how homes and communities are delivered—reducing costs at the source and preserving affordability over time.

David Gourlay is the Strategic Partnerships Advisor with Homeward Public Affairs, bringing over 25 years of experience across public, private, and charitable sectors. He helps organizations build partnerships, strengthen strategy, and deepen community impact, and also serves on the Advisory Board for Canada’s Forest Trust.
